Celebrating moments with food
For Christoph Kümmecke, food is so much more than nutrition; it’s an opportunity to create sensory and aesthetic experience. Together with his partner, Piotr, Christoph enjoys combining spices, flavors, and aromas into dishes served with thoughtful design. “We strongly believe that serving food on beautifully designed plates elevates the entire experience,” he shares. Their culinary adventures often blend cultural roots and seasonal ingredients. Piotr’s Polish heritage inspires unique dishes with German twists, while Berlin’s vibrant food scene continues to excite them. Christoph highlights favorite spots like Pars in Charlottenburg and Oukan in Mitte, as well as local gems in Wedding, their home district. Whether savoring Vietnamese comfort food like vegetarian pho or indulging in a Polish blueberry yeast bun, Christoph treasures the diverse flavors that shape their culinary journey.
Christoph’s approach to design is curated and minimalist, yet cozy. “Our style evolves naturally, shaped by our lifestyle, cultural surroundings, and creative environment,” he explains. Every object in their home serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, from design classics to vintage finds.
Timeless design inspirations
Stelton’s legacy in Danish design resonates deeply with Christoph. He highlights the Cylinda-Line teapot by Arne Jacobsen as a personal favorite. “It’s more than functional; it’s like a piece of art,” he says. Similarly, Erik Magnussen’s EM cutlery is celebrated for its sculptural simplicity. When asked about designing a Stelton product, Christoph dreams of creating a minimalist filter coffee machine or rice cooker—products that combine form, function, and aesthetics in the Stelton tradition.
“The design of a home affects our emotions and senses.” Christoph’s wedding apartment, a 1920s design by Erich Glas, is a harmonious blend of historical architecture and modern interior design. The space’s functionality and natural light influence their experiences, including how they enjoy food and drink.
Coffee as a daily ritual
Coffee is central to Christoph’s day, serving different roles depending on the time. In the morning, it’s all about functionality—a strong espresso or filter coffee to jumpstart the day. Later, coffee transforms into a ritual of pause and reflection, often brewed in the Stelton EM77 French press and paired with a sweet treat. “: We love making coffee a special moment with our limited-edition mugs—because, let’s face it, coffee tastes even better when it’s served with a touch of personality!” Christoph says. Stelton products play a significant role in their coffee routines. The EM77 vacuum jug is a favorite, allowing for larger brews that are perfect for relaxed mornings on the balcony or gatherings with friends. Christoph also enjoys exploring Berlin’s cafés, from Julius in Wedding (a must-visit for French toast lovers) to Studio Natura in Mitte.
